American Community Survey The data.”
Our reporters got a quote from the research of University of Iowa: “Insurance coverage for low-income caregivers increased from about 60% to nearly 90% in expanding states, but only reached about 80% in non-expanding states. Using a difference-in-differences regression design, we find that Medicaid expansion was associated with a 5.1 percentage point increase in overall insurance coverage.Expanding states experienced a gain of 12, 2 percentage points in Medicaid which was partially offset by a 6.4 percentage point reduction in private insurance coverage.
According to the news editors, the research concluded, “Our findings show that ACA Medicaid expansion increased insurance coverage for low-income caregivers; however, there was a significant crowding out of private insurance coverage in this population. Policymakers should consider expanding Medicaid while encouraging affordable private health insurance options for low-income caregivers to improve insurance coverage.
