Quentin Tarantino is ready to “end the show”.
The “Reservoir Dogs” filmmaker has confirmed that he plans to quit directing after directing his 10th standalone film because he’s determined to come out with a bang.
He said, “I’ve been doing it for a long time; I’ve been doing it for 30 years. And it’s time to wrap up the show. I’m an artist. I want you to want more.”
The 59-year-old filmmaker – whose 2007 film ‘Death Proof’ is deducted from his final total because it was half the double feature ‘Grindhouse’ alongside Robert Rodriguez’ ‘Planet Terror’ – insisted on the fact that he “didn’t want to work for diminishing returns”.
He told CNN’s Chris Wallace: “I don’t want to become this disconnected old man when, already, I feel a bit like a disconnected old man when it comes to current movies that are coming out right now.
“And that’s what’s happening – that’s exactly what’s happening.”
But fans may have a long wait to watch Tarantino’s latest work as he has no idea what the movie will be and has insisted he’s not “in a hurry” to do so due of the dominance of streaming services.
When asked if he knew what his “10th and last film” would be, he replied: “No, I don’t know at all, because I’m not in a great rush to make my last film either. .
“Right now I don’t even know what a movie is – is it something that’s on Netflix? Is it something that’s on Amazon and people watch on their couch with their wife or husband? Is it a movie?
“Because my last movie was released in 3,000 theaters and played around the world for a few months.”
Tarantino, whose most recent work was critically acclaimed ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’, last year considered calling it a day while still at the top and admitted at the time that he didn’t even care to make a 10th movie.
He said, “Most of the latest films from the directors are f****** ugly. Maybe I shouldn’t do another film because I could be really happy to drop the mic.”
