Here are today’s top stories at Concord:
- K9 officer Hancock brings honor to the force. He regularly finds the culprits and brings them to justice. On Saturday night in Pleasant Hill, K9 Hancock followed two suspects through the streets, finding them hiding under a car. The suspects quickly surrendered to the K9 officer. Two other criminals removed from the streets. Good dog, K9 Hancock! (Concord Police K9 Association via Facebook)
- In the wake of Elon Musk’s firing of half of Twitter’s workforce, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier has drafted a bill he says will lessen the impact of big business labor decisions. In the words of his office, the bill “‘cracks down on corporate greed following Elon Musk’s mass wrongful layoffs on Twitter.'” Federal law currently only requires large corporations to give 60 days notice. days to affected employees, states and localities if they choose to shut down or carry out mass layoffs, an unreasonable amount of time for American workers to prepare,” according to DeSaulnier. - Let’s hear it for K9 officers! This time it was Antioch Police K9 Nox who was the hero. Brentwood police saw a hijacked Dodge Challenger from Stockton and chased it. The suspects ended up in Antioch and at least one fled the vehicle on foot. How was he captured? You guessed it. K9 Nox detected his scent and alerted officers. All suspects were eventually captured and turned over to the Stockton Police Department. Good dog, K9 Nox! (Herald of Antioch)
- Several Bay Area Transit options are threatened by a budget crisis precipitated by the pandemic. Ridership is down on all modes of public transportation and pandemic relief funds are about to dry up, just as inflation is driving up costs and a recession is looming. Each transport agency has its own solution to the budget crisis, but all involve service cuts. State Senator Scott Wiener doesn’t want that to happen. He says the possible reductions that are in the draft stage “would completely explode congestion on our roads, it would undermine our economic recovery and it would deeply hurt low-income workers. We cannot let this happen. (Mercury News via MSN)
- The 21st Pleasanton Weekly Holiday Fund kicks off this week. It’s “a time when our news agency is asking Tri-Valley residents, businesses and community groups to consider donating to support eight local nonprofit beneficiaries this holiday season.” Your donation is tax deductible. You can donate to their giving campaign this holiday season, via PleasantonWeekly.com/holiday_fund. Learn more about the eight beneficiaries here: (danvillesanramon.com)
