Freddie B. Manning Sr. is honored for his work in the U.S. Postal Service prior to his retirement.
A military veteran who served 20 years in communications, Manning has tackled a multitude of duties for the post office located at 4897 Bennett’s Pasture Rd. In addition to being a mail carrier, he has also served as a security captain, trainer, on-the-job instructor as well as mentor.
Wanting to do two more years in the post, he plans to move to Charlston, South Carolina with his family.
“I, my wife and my family are going to Charlston, so it was time to move on and prepare for my move.”
Manning reflected on his work with the post office and the people he served.
“I have been serving people for 18 years. This is actually my fourth route I’ve been on, and on all three routes I’ve done before, people are still talking about me,” Manning said. “In this new road that I’ve been on for seven years, people still love me there, they know me by name. This lady said to me, ‘You’re the first postman whose name I know.’ That’s saying something, so I was quite impressed with that.
Manning shared his appreciation for those he served and those who supported him in his career.
“All the people I have met and met throughout my time in the post, I appreciate them very much. And they like me,” he said. “The customers there are great. I did them a favor and they did me a favor, and they really like me there. I made a lot of friends there.
