CHARLOTTE — Developers continue to create more and more multi-family projects in the area, and North Charlotte was a popular location for such developments in November.
To begin, plans for up to 450 apartments and 150 townhouses are taking shape on 64 acres at 6540 University City Blvd. following IBM’s sale of the property to Miami-based Related Group. Also in the University District, a Pennsylvania-based developer recently filed a petition with the city to rezoning an office park for a mixed project which includes multi-family units, and construction began last month on an affordable housing complex. Nearby, a a rezoning petition has also been filed for a 200-unit apartment community on North Tryon Street near Morehead Road.
Further north in the region, a mixed project comprising 134 apartments opened last month in downtown Huntersville, a six-storey development with up to 263 apartments and commercial space on the ground floor progress in downtown Corneliusand plans for 264 apartments on a Statesville site have received final approval in November, among other efforts.
And in Gastonia, a major residential development by national builder DR Horton recently received the green light from the city council. It is expected to include 348 apartments, 207 single-family homes and 133 townhouses on more than 100 acres off East Hudson Boulevard.
