Mental health is an important part of a person’s overall health and well-being. Every day, health insurance providers are responding to the mental health needs of Americans with a range of innovative and collaborative approaches, including an increase in telehealth services.
A new AHIP infographic highlights how health insurance providers are breaking down barriers to telehealth, resulting in lower costs for patients, improved convenience and access to care, greater choice of physicians and clinicians and improved quality of care.
Takeaways from the infographic include:
* Nearly 40% of mental health visits were made via telehealth in 2020, for example, compared to less than 1% in 2019, a 100-fold increase.
* Telehealth accounted for 66% of all mental health visits for children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
* 57% of patients preferred telehealth for their mental health visits.
Americans are embracing telehealth for physical and mental health care, and health insurance providers are delivering.
