Independent Health was appointed to US News and World Reports annual list of top health insurance companies offering Medicare Advantage coverage in the country. Independent health is the only health plan in Western New York to receive this prestigious recognition from US News and World Report for four consecutive years.
US News and World Report developed its “2023 Best Medicare Advantage Plan Companies” list by analyzing Medicare Star Ratings/* 2023 rankings for each health plan. The star ratings were designed by the Medicare and Medicaid Service Centers (CMS) to help people evaluate the quality, value, and performance of every Medicare Advantage plan across the country.

How star ratings are measured
Using a 5-star quality rating system, with 5 stars being the highest rating, CMS measures Medicare beneficiaries’ experience with their health plans and the health care system on a annual basis. Among the components on which the plans are measured are customer service, member satisfaction, and how well they keep their members healthy. These ratings then serve as a helpful and unbiased way for Medicare beneficiaries to objectively compare their medical and prescription drug options.
