TOPEKA — Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt announced on Friday Kansas Department of Insurance restored $109,981.52 to Reno County inhabitants in 2022.

Last year, a total of $7.6 million was recovered for policyholders statewide, the largest single-year recovery in Kansas the story.

The department recovered $26 million for Kansans since Commissioner Schmidt first took office in 2019.

“When the Kansans call the Insurance Departmentwe are working diligently to ensure they receive the benefits to which they are entitled under their insurance policy,” the commissioner said. Vicki Schmidt said. “The insurance claims process can be complicated for many – if you have a problem, I want to hear from you.”

Funds considered “recovered” are calculated when ministry staff help people who need support through their insurance claims process.

In the event of a dispute between a policyholder and an insurance company, regardless of the type of insurance, the Kansas Department of Insurance investigates the consumer and company complaint and ensures that the insurance policy is followed and benefits are paid accordingly.

People having difficulty with an insurance claim can contact the Kansas Department of Insurance consumer assistance division toll-free at 1-800-432-2484.

Concerns can also be emailed to [email protected] or online at insurance.kansas.gov for any questions or concerns relating to claims.
