What Are the Reasons the IRS May Ask Me to Return My Stimulus Check?

JheInternal Revenue Service sometimes makes mistakes about your stimulus checks and handing over the money.

Since the pandemic, the The IRS processes tax returns in more time than expected. Sometimes taxpayers get more money from their stimulus package because of incorrect calculations.

Why is the IRS asking me to return my stimulus check?

The IRS has several reasons to ask you to return a cheque:

You received a check for a deceased person

The pandemic has increased the death rate among people around the world and in the United States. Thousands of people still die every week.

It takes time for the IRS to collect data from multiple taxpayers. If your husband or wife diesand the IRS sends a check that you collected, you must return it.

    High income

The vast majority of stimulus checks target middle and lower class people. If you have an income over $99,000 and received a stimulus check, you would likely be disqualified because the income limit was $87,000.

The IRS will ask you to collect the money.

If you are a foreigner or have non-resident status

The federal government does not give any incentives to people who live in the United States without non-resident status. If you’re a foreigner and can’t apply for federal help, you can’t get a stimulus check.

If you received two checks in one round

The IRS could give more than a stimulus check to taxpayers in one run. There is only one check per turn.
