December 5—REXFORD — The wharfmaster at Schenectady Yacht Club in Rexford was charged with insurance fraud, accused of falsifying several bills and submitting them for insurance reimbursement, New York State Police said Monday.
Derek J. Sutherland49 years old, from Broadalbinwas arrested last week and charged with first-degree forgery of business documents and third-degree insurance fraud, felonies, police said.
The investigation has begun October 27 when the soldiers received a complaint from a representative of the yacht club, police said.
The investigation determined that Sutherland falsified several invoices on company letterhead that incorrectly documented hours worked that he did not work, police said. Sutherland then submitted the bills to an insurance company seeking direct reimbursement, police said.
Sutherland was processed and released to appear in court later.
