gGwinnett County, Georgia government workers can expect a large direct payout next week after officials decided to offer a bonus Christmas check.
The county is looking to retain more workers as it has struggled to get enough first responders, utility workers and other positions.
“Residents of Gwinnett deserve sustainable, high-quality county government services and these are made possible by a strong and reliable workforce,” said President of the Board of Commissioners Nicole Hendrickson.
“We intend to make Gwinnett a special community where everyone can thrive as the public sector employer of choice.”
Who is eligible and how much will they receive?
Payments will vary depending on the position.
Full-time employees should receive a total of $1,500, while part-time workers will receive $750. Workers should receive their payments from December 16.
Gwinnett County School District employees are also set to receive a $1,000 bonus in December, with up to 21,500 workers eligible for the bonus.
It comes after the school district handed out $700 bonuses last year to full-time employees.
“For the third school year, our employees have done an outstanding job of meeting the needs of students during the pandemic,” said Superintendent Calvin Watts.
Georgia isn’t the only state handing out Christmas bonuses, with Maryland’s Berlin Touch Council handing out Payments of $500 to municipal employees.
Needy families in Tennessee will receive $500 in direct payments, while the Jacksonville/North Pulaski school district in Arkansas will also distribute vacation payments.
Teachers will receive a total of $5,000, of which $2,500 will be available for support staff. All district operating fund employees will receive a $500 bonus.
