A mansion listed for just under $10 million in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley includes a small vineyard, working winery, stables and riding arena.
Described as an “equestrian estate and winery”, the property at 5290 Olund Rd. in Abbottsford is listed for sale by Sotheby’s for $9,950,000. The 6,000 square foot home was built in 1992 and features five bedrooms, five bathrooms, vaulted ceilings, and views of Mount Baker.
“The home’s interior evokes an Italian wine estate home, with a Renaissance-style mural decorating the entryway ceiling and classical ornamental columns throughout,” the listing reads.

But listing agent Paul Hague says the house is only part of the whole picture. The property, he says, offers a unique opportunity for a potential winemaker to set up shop about an hour from Vancouver.
“There are great wines there, there are beautiful vineyards and it’s actually quite shocking to people when they walk through them,” he says, adding that the vineyard has the ability to generate additional income. by organizing events in its tasting room.

Family-owned Seaside Pearl Farmgate Winery produces approximately 2,000 bottles a year, a combination of Fraser Valley VQA wines from grapes grown on the property and Okanagan Valley VQA wines from Okanagan grapes purchased. Hague tasted the wine and described it as “spectacular”.
Hague, who specializes in vineyard property, says the family’s decision to sell the property and business is part of a larger trend he’s seeing in the niche market.
“There are a lot of people retiring. BC has 25 or 30 years of really big wine production, we’ve really perfected it. A lot of people, they’re just retiring,” he says.
“You’re going to see a lot of wineries changing hands in the next few years, a lot is going to happen this year.”

The listing also describes the nine-acre property as ideal for an “equestrian avid” with a stable that can accommodate 13 horses, nine outdoor paddocks, a riding arena and “serene” outdoor trails.
Hague says it has received inquiries from foreign investors, but none from local buyers.
“That’s a big number for real estate in British Columbia right now, especially given the current climate, but it’s a very unique property.”

The price is almost ten times higher than the average for a single-family home in the city of Abbotsford, according to the latest information from British Columbia Assessment. That’s about five times the price of an average single-family home in Vancouver.
