    The 170 lucky applicants will be randomly selected in a lottery, with city officials saying the first check should be sent in January 2023 and received for 24 consecutive months without any spending regulations, meaning the beneficiary can use it as he sees fit. adapt.

    Certain eligibility conditions must be met before participating in the lottery, for example, the resident must be at least 18 years old and their income must be no more than 50% of the median income of the region, in this case the limit for a le single person household is $49,850.

    On October 25, the authorities will publish additional information regarding the form that must be completed from October 31 to November 9, in order to apply.

    It is important to note that these payments will not affect those received by a Social Security or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LJHEAP)), and recipient of child care subsidies.

    This additional $500 income will not be taxable because the IRS recognizes it as a possible gift thanks to the Alexandria Success and Equity Recurring Income Program.

    Other cities have implemented similar programs

    In Coachella, California, 140 families will receive $400 per month for the next two years, with the money given in full and the beneficiaries having nothing to repay.

    Applications are open for the program until November 11 and Mayor Steven Hernandez thinks it’s a way to help some of its residents.

    “We have developed a comprehensive universal basic income program that targets our most vulnerable residents,” he said.

    Applicants will need to have proof of their address and income, as well as government-issued ID, as well as proof of their children’s ages.
