Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey already works on a new social network who, in all likelihood, will be named Blue sky. “The word ‘Bluesky’ evokes a wide range of possibilities“, the company published last week and announced on its website that it was looking for people to help during beta testing.
Dorsey will seek to appeal to the thousands of people who said they would leave twitter and who do not agree with its acquisition by South Africans billionaire Elon Musk.
The new social network is in the test phase
“The next step is to start testing the protocol. The development of a distributed protocol is a complicated process”, Bluesky shared via press release. “It requires the coordination of many parties once a network is deployed, so we will start in private beta to iron out issues.”
“As we test the beta version, we will continue to refine protocol specifications and share details of how it works. When it’s ready, we will go into open beta“added Dorsey, 45.
The new service will be decentralized
According to Bluesky, the new app will have extreme security protocolsin addition it will use a Authenticated Transfer Protocolexplaining that it will be a social network that will be managed by different sitesrather than using one location have its servers.
“We call the application we build Blue sky for it will be a portal to the world of possibilities on the AT protocol.” Dorsey shared that Bluesky wants to be “a competitor to any company trying to own the underlying fundamentals of social networks or the data of the people who use it.”
Bluesky was founded by Twitter in 2019. “The broader, long-term goal is to build a sustainable environment, open protocol for public conversation“, wrote Dorsey.
“That he does not belong to any particular organization, but contributed by the greatest number“, he added. “And that it is born and evolves on the Internet with the same principles.”
