More than 140 delegates from five English-speaking countries in West Africa are expected at this year’s Annual Meeting Educational Conference of the Association of West African Insurance Companies (WAICA) in monrovia.
The directory Educational Conferencethe second of WAICA’s two annual events, will be held from November 27-29 to EJS Ministerial Complex in City of Congoaccording Saye D. Gbalazehthe president of Liberia Insurance Association (LIA).
The annual and annual general meeting Educational Conference of WAICA did not take place in Liberia since the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in 2014.
Gbalazeh, the outgoing president of WAICA, said that the annual report of WAICA Educational Conference will bring together Insurance Stakeholders from the five English-speaking countries of West Africa — Nigeria, GhanaThe Gambia, Sierra Leoneand Liberia.
The theme of the Annual of his year Educational Conference is “Managing Transitions and Succession Plans in Corporate Governance: Theory and Practice in the Insurance Industry in West Africa”.
It is expected that selected authoritative scholars will provide their professional perspectives and that attending delegates and a team of panelists will debate the content of the presentations to craft a conference resolution.
According Mr. Gbalazeh delegates will include insurance executives, marketing executives, media executives and representatives from global reinsurance companies.
“The WAICA Annual Educational conference enables the host country and participants to find practical solutions to some of its challenges and gain knowledge on changing industry trends,” the Liberian insurance manager said.
“These include global best practices and key reform initiatives undertaken to improve the regulatory environment and enable the sector to reach its full potential.”
William B. CokerSecretary General and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WAICA, said they are looking forward to having a good time in the country and supporting the insurance industry in Liberia.
According to him, WAICA intends to push for the industry with one voice in unity to develop it country by country.
He also said that there is a harmonized program to have a unified system to provide an opportunity where insurance companies can work across borders with limited restrictions.
We can recall that WAICA continued its Annual General Conference during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Gbalazeh from Liberia chaired.
In May 2022, George Y. Mensah of Ghana Reinsurance Company assumed the presidency when that country hosted the WAICA General Assembly. At that time, Al-Haji Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, Vice President of Ghanawas the keynote speaker and highlighted the important role that the insurance industry continues to play in the intracultural and economic development of Ghana.
Association of West African Insurance Companies was founded on May 4, 1973 with the aim of promoting cooperation in all respects between all insurers and reinsurers operating in the West African sub-region.
The general Assembly and Executive Committee of WAICA includes the President, the Vice-President, 5 representatives of Nigeria3 representatives of Ghana2 representatives each of the Gambia, Sierra Leone and Liberia, and an outgoing president. He runs a secretariat, headed by a secretary general.
