    AAs winter continues to bring lower temperatures across the country, many households are struggling with ever-rising energy prices that are affecting their budgets as they try to keep their homes and families warm.

    Maine residents will receive energy relief payment

    Low temperatures are affecting families all over the United Statesbut more than 850,000 residents of Mainewill be able to stay warm and safe thanks to the Direct payment of $450 that Governor Janet Mills recently signed under the Winter Emergency Energy Plan.

    This bill also provides low-income consumers with additional home heating assistance, ensuring emergency fuel assistance for everyone.

    “This emergency measure will ease the financial burden of Maine people by putting money back in their pockets and ensuring that our most vulnerable citizens can stay warm this winter,” said Governor’s Mills.

    Who is eligible to receive this $450 payment

    Maine residents who filed their 2021 tax return before October 31, 2022 deadline and had a household head income below $150,000 Is eligible.

    While couples filing jointly have a $200,000 limit, being reduced to $100,000 for single registrants.

    If a person was declared as a dependent on another tax return, they will not be able to receive the payment.

    Payments will be mailed to the address given on the tax return, with the government expecting them all to be sent out by March 31.
