Ssince 1935 when Social Security has been createdworkers over 65 receive their pension after retirement, and currently 1 in 5 receive an SSA benefit.
These payments usually arrive on a fixed date each month, but one question that worries millions of people is whether these Social Security recipients will receive extra pay in December.
The answer is different than you might think
To put it bluntly, Social Security recipients will not receive extra pay in December. What will happen is that millions of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive two payments in December, but the second payment is not an additional payment.
The second payment is a payment that is due in January, but it will be received a few days earlier. Now, Social Security payments are received by most recipients on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of each month, based on their date of birth.
What are the dates to receive it?
People who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), such as people who are blind, disabled, or over the age of 65 with very limited financial resources, usually receive these payments on the first day of the month.
If the date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, SSI payments will be sent the next business day. This year, SSI recipients will be paid on December 1 and December 30. But this last payment is due in January 2023.
Earlier this year, SSI recipients received two payments in April and September (the latter payments were for May and October). AARP says same schedule adjustment also applies to other Social Security payments if the date falls on a holiday.
