IAnd the the United States of Americathere is a $5 million pot from which Americans could get their much-needed $500 stimulus check. It happens in the state of Missourispecifically in the city of Saint Louis and these checks are intended for low-income families. Mayor Tishaura Jones was the one who made the announcement last Thursday, she said the city already has a plan to send money to hundreds of families who are not having a good time as they weather inflation rates and problems economy during this pandemic.

The bill that has been introduced calls on the state to spend $5 million in funds from the federal pandemic stimulus plan. They are urging the federal government to agree to send monthly payments of $500 to about 440 families for the next year and a half. The idea is for this program to start as soon as it is approved and run until 2024. In order to see who qualifies for this stimulus checkplease continue reading.

Who is eligible for these stimulus checks?

The program is not yet approved, but a green light would mean those eligible would be low-income people who are either parents or guardians of children in the city’s public schools. It is a great opportunity for the city of St. Louis to offer support to working parents and their children. It also aims to reduce racial and gender inequalities in the city. If the city invests in school children and their families, it means that it is investing in the future of the city. No guidelines on exact earnings have yet been released.

This initiative has been met with significant setbacks, there are still a few steps to take to get these payments to families in St. Louis. One such step is council-level voting, which is met with opposing views from some officials who do not support the mayor’s plan. They consider that there are already many services that help people, some of them find this program contradictory. Other officials are also questioning whether the program can sustain itself after federal stimulus money no longer arrives. No timetable for these payments has yet been proposed.
