Stimulus checks: Last day to claim payments up to $3,200. What credits are available?

JThursday, November 17 is the very last day that people who need their Verification of the stimulus can still claim one. But these stimulus payments are just one of the many benefits that have today as a last call to claim. Many families can still claim child tax credit, EITC, and other payments. The Tax Service (IRS) has already sent a letter to families reminding them that anyone who is eligible for one of these payments should file their 2021 tax returns and consider these options.

This letter has been on the air since the beginning of November and has been printed in both English and Spanish. It provides an overview of the three credits that can still be claimed by eligible families. These credits are Child tax credit, clawback credit and earned income tax credit. All these credits are different from the Stimulus Check. If you keep reading, we’ll give you all the options you can use to claim those credits on the last day.

How do I claim stimulus checks and other credits?

All of these checks and credits were actually increased as part of the US Bailout Act and other recent legislation. But make no mistake, the only way to claim any of these credits is to file the 2021 tax return. For stimulus checks, the IRS has already told about 9 million people they can still claim their checks for up to $3,200 in some cases. You can still claim yours if you fill out a tax form before the end of the day. The deposit website will remain open until midnight ET on Thursday. It’s 9:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.

The main idea behind these checks is to help millions of families keep their households afloat during a complicated time in American history. As the global pandemic continues in many places, inflation rages across the country and families in need don’t have enough to make ends meet. According to IRS, families can still file a tax return even if they haven’t received the letter. There will be no penalties for taxpayers who obtain a tax refund even if they filed their return after the usual tax deadline of April 2022.
