2022 OCT 27 (NewsRx) — By a News Reporter – Staff News Editor at China Daily News — New science research is reported. According to news from beijingPeople Republic of China, by NewsRx correspondents, the research said, “The public long-term care insurance (LTCI) scheme has been implemented in a few countries. Although crowding-out, crowding-out, and specialization hypotheses may aid our understanding of the relationship between LTCI and informal care use, existing studies may suffer from reverse causation.
Financial support for this research came from the Major Program of National Philosophy Fund and social sciences of China.
Our news reporters got a quote from the research of the University of International Business and Economics“Using a quasi-experimental design, this study investigated the policy effect of LTCI on informal care utilization among community-dwelling older adults in China. Based on data from three waves of Chinese Longitudinal Survey of Healthy Longevity, a scaled difference-in-differences (DID) approach with propensity score matching (PSM) was used to analyze the impact of LTCI on the likelihood and hours of informal care use. The results showed that, for older people with disabilities, LTCI reduced the likelihood and 82.4% of weekly hours of informal care by 43.3%. LTCI also showed a knock-on effect among older people without disabilities by reducing the likelihood and weekly hours of informal care by 5.2% and 12.2%, respectively. Therefore, we argue that policy makers can consider rolling out the program nationwide.
According to the editors, the research concluded: “In the meantime, measures are needed to avoid a sharp decline in informal caregiving.
