    New Delhi: PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme: Hundreds of thousands of Indian farmers eligible for cash benefit of Rs 6,000 a year heard very good news during Union Budget presentation by Minister of Finance Finance Nirmala Sitharaman. According to various media outlets, the government may increase the amount of annual financial benefit for farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme to Rs 8,000. The reports further state that the Rs 8,000 will be paid into the account of eligible farmers. in 4 equal installments.

    The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, aims to provide income support to all landowning farming families in the country with cultivable land, subject to certain exclusions. Under the program, an amount of Rs 6,000 per year is released in three installments of 4 months of Rs 2,000 each directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. While thousands of impatient farmers are waiting for Rs 2,000 to be paid into their account, several farmers are not eligible for the PM KISAN scheme.


    Who can benefit from the benefits of the PM-KISAN scheme?

    All landowning farming families, who have cultivable land in their name, are eligible to benefit from the benefits of the scheme.

    Who are excluded from the PM-KISAN scheme?

    The following categories of beneficiaries of higher economic status are not eligible for benefits under the scheme.

    A. All Institutional Land Holders.

    B. Farm families belonging to one or more of the following categories:

    i) Former and current holders of constitutional offices

    ii) former and current Ministers/Ministers of State and former/current members of LokSabha/RajyaSabha/State Legislative Assemblies/State Legislative Councils, former and current Mayors of Municipal Corporations, former and current Presidents of District Panchayats.

    iii) All serving and retired civil servants and employees of central/state government ministries/bureaus/departments and its field units. Central or state PES and attached offices/autonomous institutions under government, as well as regular employees of local agencies.

    (Excluding Multitasking Staff/Class IV/Group D Employees)

    vi) All pensioners/retirees whose monthly pension is Rs 10,000 or more (excluding multi-tasking staff/Class IV/Group D employees) of the above category

    v) All persons who paid income tax in the last tax year

    (vi) Professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects registered with professional bodies and practicing their profession by undertaking practices.
