Jthere is still time for residents to use the government’s online tool to apply for the 2021 widening Child tax credit is short.
On November 15, the GetCTC non-registrant registration tool will be deactivated by the United States Government and will no longer be used.
Prior to that day however, families can still use the tool to claim a tax credit. Parents can receive $3,000 per child for households with children ages 6 to 17 and $3,600 for children five and under.
What is the expanded child tax credit program?
The child tax credit was originally extended as part of the $1.9 trillion US bailout law created by the president Joe Biden.
The amount of money parents could receive previously was $2,000, so a drastic increase was made to try and help with the rising cost of living for normal families.
To encourage more parents to apply for the tax credit and to make it easier, the online and mobile tool was created by Code for America in partnership with the White House and the US Treasury. It works in English and Spanish.
The tool offers families a quick and easy way to claim the Child Tax Credit, which can be done in 15 minutes online. The tool can also be used to file claims for missing stimulus payments.
Does the child tax credit reduce other benefits?
A crucial factor that people should apply for before the November 15 deadline is that applying for this child tax credit does not affect eligibility for other federal benefits such as SNAP or WIC.
Therefore, this is a very helpful benefit that will help families across the United States of America, but the simple online tool to claim it will only be live for a few more hours.
